The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between cognitive impairment and anxiety symptoms in patients with Parkinson's disease. This is a cross-sectional study carried out in a movement disorder clinic in Maceió, AL. The sample included the participation of 62 patients with primary Parkinson's disease. The participants were predominantly women (75,0%), with a mean age of 62.51 years (±9.26). For sociodemographic identification of patients, a questionnaire developed by the researchers, the Geriatric Anxiety Inventory and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment was used. The results demonstrate that the anxiety symptoms correlated inversely with cognitive function. This relationship was also identified with the variables age and education. Anxious symptoms corroborate cognitive decline. In addition, sociodemographic factors can also assist in the occurrence of this impairment. Assessing both cognition and mental health in patients with Parkinson's disease is important, especially when these patients have sociodemographic characteristics, for example, that can negatively contribute to the decline of these functions (i.e., cognitive and mental).
