Resumen

SANTOS, Ende et al. Women in prison: gender, daily prayer and mental health. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.1, pp.387-401.  Epub 30-Jun-2023. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/23psd240133.

The aim of this study is to reflect how scientific productions have been addressed possible links between gender, mental health, religiosity and / or spirituality of women inmates. A bibliographical survey between the years 2007 and 2017 on electronic platforms, a systematization of the articles and further the categorization in themes for analysis was done. The main issues found in the articles analyzed were divided into five categories: Women deprived of liberty: gender issues and domino effect of vulnerability; Faith as a potential for interpersonal relationships; Order in prison and faith; Association between religiosity / spirituality to mental suffering or mental disorders; The meaning of life from faith. The themes are articulated between them and most of the studies found are international, which confirms the lack of reflections, at national level, on comprehensive health care for women in situation of prison. It was possible to realize that the faith provided by spirituality and / or religion activities has the potential to reduce suffering experiences that the prison context promotes and could be especially damage to mental health. Thus, the importance of thinking about the promotion of mental health through strategies that enable the main objective of the prison, which is social rehabilitation, is emphasized, especially for the follow-up of women.

Palabras clave : Mental health; Spirituality; Religiosity; Social vulnerability; Social rehabilitation.
