Abstract

ANTUNES, Maria et al. Factors associated with burnout in higher education teachers in Brazil. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.2, pp.670-681.  Epub Oct 31, 2023. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/23psd240220.

The objective of this research was to identify risk factors for the symptoms of Burnout and stress in higher education professors from institutions in southern Brazil. 61 teachers participated in the study who taught at one or more private institutions. It was applied a questionnaire about sociodemographic and health data, the Maslach inventory and the Inventories of Symptoms of Stress developed by Lipp. In the logistic regression analysis, stress, family problems, previous use of medication, previous diagnosis of illness and exercise of activity at the graduate level were identified as risk factors for Burnout symptoms. As a protective factor against Burnout, there was a longer time for the exercise of higher education. This evidence indicates factors that must be prioritized in the formulation of public policies in health and education, as well as the basis for legislation that protects teachers' health and management practices favorable to workers' mental balance.
