Abstract

SILVA, Marcela et al. Relation of self-assessment with life habits during COVID-19 pandemic. Psic., Saúde & Doenças [online]. 2023, vol.24, n.3, pp.1006-1018.  Epub Dec 31, 2023. ISSN 1645-0086.  https://doi.org/10.15309/23psd240318.

The objective of the study was to verify the association of self-rated health and memory with maintaining lifestyle habits in adults and elderly people during the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional study was carried out with secondary data from the study “COVID-19 Pandemic: risk perception, support and coping strategies of adults and elderly people”. An online collection of sociodemographic variables, lifestyle habits during the pandemic, self-assessment of health and memory was carried out with 1,149 adults and elderly people from Brazil and Portugal. The majority of participants reported self-rated health and positive memory, maintaining a healthy diet, good sleep quality and mental activeness. In adults, only maintaining good nutrition is associated with better subjective perception of health; even those who maintained healthy habits had a greater chance of evaluating their concrete memory. In the elderly, there was a positive relationship between remaining mentally active and self-assessment of memory. Therefore, it can be concluded that COVID-19 affected the lifestyle habits of the studied population, but differently between adults and elderly people in terms of self-assessment of health and memory. The results reinforce the importance of creating external strategies for the population during the pandemic, with the aim of maintaining healthy health behaviors and providing individuals with well-being.
