Abstract

LACERDA, Teresa O.. Sporting body aesthetics: an overview . Rev. Port. Cien. Desp. [online]. 2007, vol.7, n.3, pp.393-398. ISSN 1645-0523.

In mediatised XXIst century society, image gets an important role and sporting body image acquired a protagonism never ever reached before. Sporting body became synonym of the fashion body, exerting a strong attraction through the social imaginary that keeps on reaching to approach its body to the established canon. Aesthetics dominium is characterized by shape attraction but, as an anthropological and philosophical category, Aesthetics deals with reaching, trough shape, some kind of singularity. Erroneously, the Aesthetics of Sport is associated, in almost an exclusive way, to some sportsmen body shapes. The present study aims to enhance that body morphology is certainly an influence factor in the construction of aesthetic experience trough sport. Nevertheless, it is strongly emphasized that the aesthetic way of looking extends, and nor reduces, sporting body possibilities, which means that sporting body morphologic diversity expresses its plurality in what concerns its aesthetic value.

Keywords : body; sport; aesthetics.
