Abstract

TSANDZANA, Dércio. Internet social networks as a juvenile “escapism” in the political urban space in Mozambique. Cadernos de Estudos Africanos [online]. 2020, n.40, pp.167-189.  Epub Mar 14, 2022. ISSN 1645-3794.  https://doi.org/10.4000/cea.5500.

Given that political participation cannot be based only on voting, the boom of the Internet social networking has seen the emergence of innovative ways of exercising such participation, either by increasing demonstrations, boycotts, opinion articles or petitions that find greater visibility in virtual space. With this article, we intend to discuss the contribution of Internet social networks, in particular Facebook, in the political participation of youth(s), with emphasis on urban space in Mozambique. For its realisation, we adopt the netnographic method and bibliographic research, assisted by semi-structured interviews on political participation of young people.

Keywords : youth(s); political participation; urban; social networks.
