The construction and maintenance of legitimate authority is a central question in the field of strategy. However, frameworks and concepts produced in the Anglo-American world have privileged only the authority of the big company’s strategist. By discussing the underpinnings of the academic knowledge produced by the field of strategy, especially from US, this essay shows how and why the concepts of authority and legitimacy are important to strategists and academics in the Portuguese-Brazilian world in the era of globalization. This essay claims for the rediscovery and legitimacy of different types of strategists that have central influence on markets in the Portuguese-Brazilian world.
