The image of the destination is one of the greatest drivers on tourists preferences, motivations and behaviors in their decision process. This paper, at the best of our knowledge, is the first analysis ever made of the Brazilians image of Portugal as a destination. A survey of 360 Brazilians was carried out in Fortaleza and assessed whether and in what extent there were differences between those who had visited the destination and those who had not. The results indicated that even though the cultural ties between the two countries sharing the same language, the experience of visiting the former colonizer was relevant.
