Abstract

DUARTE, Carlos; SANTOS, Maria da Conceição  and  CARAPETO, Maria. The gender perspective in pay policies as a requirement of fair government of firms. Rev. Portuguesa e Brasileira de Gestão [online]. 2009, vol.8, n.3, pp.35-45. ISSN 1645-4464.

This article examines the systematic differences between men and women in the Portuguese labour market, contributing to the explanation of the gender pay gap of executives and middle and lower level of Portuguese employees. Following the research that has been held by Duarte et al. (2008), this paper proposes a holistic line of research, covering the analysis and characterization of the determinants of executives’ pay; non-executives’ pay; pay in family businesses; the presence of unions in pay policies; and the employer discrimination in recruitment. We expect to contribute to a better understanding that reassesses and improves policies for equality as challenges and targets in the coming years.

Keywords : Discrimination; Gender; Remuneration Policies; Internal Labour Market.
