These paper intends to make a discussion on some strategic management components (business strategies and some management focus: equipment and technologies, structure, competing advantages, products and processes) in the Portuguese automotive industry. The research method used was the survey. The study covers 72 companies at automotive components industry. Results suggest that the different conjugation of dimensions that define strategic management originate two contrasting models: the first includes companies with a strategy build upon innovation and quality while the other one includes companies with a strategy build upon low cost. We conclude that the companies when possessing different business strategies, also possess different forms to praise these same strategies, which support and are supported by some different management focus, in a process of (backward) mutual feeding.
