Abstract

OLIVA, Eduardo; ROMAN, Valquiria  and  MAZZALI, Leonel. Corporate university as a tool for business sustainability: the experience of state-owned enterprises. Rev. Portuguesa e Brasileira de Gestão [online]. 2010, vol.9, n.1-2, pp.75-84. ISSN 1645-4464.

This study identifies the practices of corporate universities of state-owned enterprises and verifies to which extent the foundations of the projects are composed by principles proposed by Eboli (2004). The discussion about the insertion of the corporate university in the organizational strategy is the theoretical referential that sustains a descriptive research, based on multiple-case studies. A comparative analysis of the experiences of the state-owned enterprises belonging to various segments of activity (service, production and financial intermediation) showed that the units have fully incorporated into their practices the principles of competitiveness, perpetuity and availability. However, they failed to contemplate practices considered essential for business strategy, particularly the integration of the agents of the “value chain”, the incentive to partnership with leaders and people in charge, and thorough assessment of the sustainability of the projects.
