Abstract

VILLA, Patrícia  and  ESPEJO, Márcia. TAM and Gol: Brazilian aviation representative cases in crisis times . Rev. Portuguesa e Brasileira de Gestão [online]. 2011, vol.10, n.4, pp.26-37. ISSN 1645-4464.

The purpose of this study is the verification of the economic-financial index of the two biggest Brazilian airline companies (TAM and Gol) in 2007 until 2009. Brazil, as an emergent country, seeks to improve its infrastructure and to prepare itself for one of its biggest tourist demands: the 2014 World Soccer Championship. Therefore, the accountable analysis for these two companies will make possible to follow the sector necessities. This study is characterized as a qualitative methodological approach, and a descriptive objective. The model indicated by Fleuriet for classification of these companies demonstrated a divergent situation between them, showing Gol as the most financially steady for the analyzed years. Both need to search protection mechanisms against possible world-wide economic crises that may harm the operational results again. Moreover, the country needs to stimulate the sector development, aiming at a continuous economy growth.

Keywords : Economic-Financial Analysis; Gol; Fleuriet Model; Aviation Sector; TAM.
