This article aims to evaluate and compare the level of intrapreneurial culture in a sample of Portuguese and Brazilian companies. It is intended to expose the strengths and weaknesses of each sample against the indicators of intrapreneurial culture as defined by Gilfford Pinchot III (1987): the existence within an organization of a climate favorable for innovation. For this purpose we used a questionnaire and a validated tool (Hartman, 2006a) able to evaluate the level of intrapreneurial culture in three possible ratings: low intrapreneurial, medium intrapreneurial and intrapreneurial firms. For Reto and Cavalcanti (2007), in Latin cultures the possibility of entrepreneurial initiative within existing organizations faces major obstacles, and in fact the results of this study show that in none of the companies surveyed existed a truly intrapreneurial culture. Finally, the sample of Portuguese companies presents a higher level of intrapreneurial culture than the sample of Brazilian companies in all the indicators used. Interestingly, for both countries the companies surveyed show the same strengths and weaknesses although in different order.
