Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Fátima; SANT’ANNA, Anderson  and  DINIZ, Daniela. Typology of entrepreneurs involved in dynamic conversion of economic functions of cities: A study of Tiradentes and Paraty cases. Rev. Portuguesa e Brasileira de Gestão [online]. 2013, vol.12, n.2, pp.44-58. ISSN 1645-4464.

The aim of this paper is to discuss the results of research that sought to investigate the role, attributes and ways of action of entrepreneurs in cities which undergo processes of conversion of economic functions, specifically the cases of Tiradentes and Paraty, two Brazilian cities. The framework review included research about the processes for the conversion of economic functions of cities, the notion of “entrepreneurial leadership”, especially types of entrepreneurs, ending up with studies of Bourdieu (2010). In terms of methodology, the research can be characterized as qualitative in nature, using the method of multiple case studies, with in-depth interviews, focus groups and document analysis. As a result, it was possible to observe the existence of different types of entrepreneurs in both cities, which are distinguished by their origins, management styles and the way they deal with the collective aspects, surpassing the assumption of homogeneity among entrepreneurs (Sarasvathy, 2004) and confirming the model typologies Sant'Anna et al. (2011). The analysis reveals the strengthening of the role of entrepreneurial leadership in developing cities.

Keywords : Conversion of Economic Functions of Cities; Typology of Entrepreneurs; Inter-Relationship between Entrepreneurs.
