Abstract

This paper presents a methodology, as a complement of the classical approach to safety stock management, for the identification and measurement of risk factors on fuels safety stocks. The methodology encompasses six steps: previous data collection related to fuels logistic flows; logistic flows mapping; identification and decomposition of risk factors on logistic flows; measurement of risk factors on logistic flows; safety stock calculation; safety stock revaluation. A case study, focused on diesel oil stored in distributors’ terminals in northern Brazil, is presented as an application of the methodology. A mitigation risk plan was built in order to reduce the uncertainties on logistic flows related to the case study.
