Resumen

MENETTI, Sandra; KUBO, Edson  y  OLIVA, Eduardo. The Brazilian generation Y and its organizational commitment in knowledge intensive companies. Rev. Portuguesa e Brasileira de Gestão [online]. 2015, vol.14, n.2, pp.02-13. ISSN 1645-4464.

Organizational commitment is the psychological state that explains the link between the individual and the organization, reflecting one’s choice to remain (Allen, 1996; Meyer, 2000) and the generation Y is a theme that has been growing significantly in recent years. From these two contents emerged this research that aims to identify and analyze the foundations of organizational commitment of generation Y in knowledge intensive companies. The theoretical framework includes definitions of generations, the characterization of generation Y and the contextualization of organizational commitment, under the focus of affective, instrumental and normative approaches. It is a quantitative research that may be classified as descriptive. The results within the sample researched in consulting companies, showed the “obligation by performance” as the basis of organizational commitment more relevant to generation Y. Although presenting a low commitment to continue in the organization, this result shows that this generation is concerned about doing a good job seeking to reach the organizational objectives, and to achieve relevant results for the organization.

Palabras clave : Generation Y; Organizational Commitment; Knowledge Intensive Companies.
