Abstract

ARAUJO, Rosângela; FERNANDES, Valdir  and  RAUEN, William. Sustainability indicators in the context of product design. Rev. Portuguesa e Brasileira de Gestão [online]. 2015, vol.14, n.2, pp.14-27. ISSN 1645-4464.

This article is focused on the use of sustainability indicators (IDS) to support the monitoring, evaluation and environmental management in the context of industrial design. The main research goal has been to develop IDS for product and service design systems. It involved an in-depth exploratory research of bibliographic and documentary databases. The results highlight priorities and deficiencies in the context of Brazilian design management, and include a group of IDS recommended for replicable results. Their use can increase the record of methods and outcome measures, as well as performance consequences of sustainable industrial design. The study identified and tabulated IDS in the context of industrial design aimed at mitigating harmful impacts in the context of industrial design. Also evaluate harmful economic, cultural, social and environmental impacts of the production system, where it operates. These results indicated that it is necessary to rescue other criteria of rationality which are not just instrumentalization and economicism.
