PINTO, António; HENRIQUES, Carla e GONCALVES, Rosana. The effect of succession in the performance of family firms: A regional study. Rev. Portuguesa e Brasileira de Gestão [online]. 2015, vol.14, n.2, pp.38-48. ISSN 1645-4464.
In research carried out around the generational effect, analyses of problems caused by the divergence of interests between generations have gained relevance. The specificity that family enterprises assumes at the level of information asymmetry, of the divergence of interests in the relations established between the different participants and the weight they play within the business sector, gives them an important role. This study aims to understand how the generation affects the profitability of family businesses. The results suggest that in companies with more than five employees, the management practiced by the founding owner is a source of increased profitability. Furthermore, in this group of companies, the management property has significant influence on the performance of companies that are in the first generation and it was observed that as this increases the performance tends to decrease.
