Abstract

KUDLAWICZ-FRANCO, Claudineia; BACH, Tatiana Marceda  and  SILVA, Eduardo Damião da. Asymmetric information and performance: A study in public companies in Brazil. RGPLP [online]. 2016, vol.15, n.2, pp.24-39. ISSN 1645-4464.

This study aims to analyze the influence of information asymmetry in the economic performance of listed companies with shares traded on the BM & FBOVESPA. It was raised proxies for information asymmetry, in addition to the representative variables of economic performance, return on equity (ROE) and return on assets. Data collection was conduct through Economática software, companies’ and BM & FBOVESPA website, and for data analysis, multiple linear regression was conducted. The main results infer that the performance of companies when represented by ROE, is influenced by information asymmetry, but only by proxy governance index, indicating that if the corporate governance of companies is more transparent ROE increases.

Keywords : Agency Theory; Asymmetric Information; Return on Assets; Return on Equity.
