Abstract

BARROS, Rosanna. The Movement of Life Histories and Critical Adult Education: Putting Concepts and Ideas in Context. Rev. Lusófona de Educação [online]. 2013, n.23, pp.31-50. ISSN 1645-7250.

This Paper takes in account the international scenario of adult education. Here the movement of life histories is essential to go beyond a debate that simple oppose to a training needs diagnosis an assessment of prior learning. The argument is that life histories proposals help us to think in a non-dualistic way, creating a new gnose to read the world in a critical way. The paper discusses some sides of life histories in adult education practices, especially as a research, interventional and training instrument. In this context life histories are used as an ongoing dialogical process centered in power relationships. This reading tried to unbolt the power relations present in life course looking to genealogy, ideology, religion, and symbolic representations as a study thematic that allows a autopoiesis process to emerge as the heart of critical adult education.

Keywords : life histories; adult education and training; training needs; assessment of prior learning; lifelong education.
