Abstract

ROMAO, José Eustáquio. Paulo Freire and the University. Rev. Lusófona de Educação [online]. 2013, n.24, pp.89-105. ISSN 1645-7250.

This paper deals with a rarely subject discussed in the educational literature, which is the reflection of Paulo Freire on higher education, since the brazilian educator became worldwide known as a thinker and promoter of literacy and adult education. Assuming the movement, very recent, of the creation, deployment and implementation of new institutional matrices different from classical models of Higher Education Institution (IES) in the world, this paper relates the concept of popular education -the greatest contribution of Latin America and certainly of Paulo Freire, to the pedagogical thinking world - the new conception of the university, identifying college niches of production of the public science and the cognitive omnilateral democracy.

Keywords : Paulo Freire; higher education; popular education; public science; cognitive omnilateral democracy.
