Abstract

TEODORO, António. Critique and utopia, or a pedagogy of possibility in the building of democratic educational policies. Rev. Lusófona de Educação [online]. 2014, n.26, pp.125-139. ISSN 1645-7250.

In the last two decades of the twentieth century, we saw the emergence of a new common sense in speeches and public education policies, based on a reduction of the concepts of democracy to consumption practices, of citizenship to possessive individualism and of equality to resentment and fear of the other. The center of the construction of this discourse is in the transfer to the market - and not, as before, in democratic politics - to the true realm of freedom. In this paper, we try to answer to the main question that arises in our days when looking for a theoretical and practical alternative to neoliberal globalization: Can we presently build the foundations of a new common sense which can help formulate an educational program for a new social group interested in promoting (and hold) progressive policies of peace, social justice, freedom and happiness? In the answer, we appeal to the concepts of Jurgen Habermas, Ulrich Beck and Boaventura de Sousa Santos to analyze another political program and its base of support, able to give hope and capacity to build another possible world.

Keywords : educational policies; cosmopolitan globalization; utopistics; methodological cosmopolitanism; cosmopolitan State; Europe.
