Abstract

RATO, Vasco. The Bush Legacy. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2008, n.19, pp.33-53. ISSN 1645-9199.

As with Truman or Reagan, the Bush legacy will be felt during the next decades. American foreign policy was transformed after the September 11 terrorist attacks but the Bush National Security Strategy shares some of his predecessors’ priorities, namely the consolidation the international primacy of the United States, the containment of challengers and the need to respond to the threats of Islamic terrorism and the proliferation of nuclear weapons. The new policies were put to the test in Iraq and the final verdict on the Bush legacy will be settled by the success or failure of the Iraq crisis.

Keywords : George Bush; American Foreign Policy; American Primacy; War on Terror.
