Abstract

LIMA, Bernardo Pires de. NATO and European Union relations after 9/11. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2009, n.21, pp.87-99. ISSN 1645-9199.

In a moment that NATO is celebrating its 60th anniversary, that the new American administration is defining its foreign policy agenda, and that the three major European powers have Atlantic approaches, it is particular relevant to make the state of the art of NATO and the European Union relationship in the post-9/11 international security architecture. There are two fundamental reasons that motivate this article: the emergence of new state and non-state actors and the urgency of a new transatlantic paradigm to face the current threats and international challenges.

Keywords : NATO; European Union; transatlantic relations; international security.
