Abstract

PINTO, Ana Santos. Middle East peace process: Between Fenix hope and Sysiphus punishment. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2009, n.22, pp.37-46. ISSN 1645-9199.

The beginning of 2009 was marked by what could be important changes for the future of the Middle East peace process. The Israeli military intervention in Gaza, the swearing in of the Obama administration, the elections in Israel and, following the latter, the formation of a government that brings together parties from right, left, nationalists and Orthodox. Haunted by the possible threat of a nuclear Iran, the Middle East is watching the change of actors, but the maintenance of roles, the change of strategies, but the maintenance of scenarios. The question now, as before, is what future for the peace process?

Keywords : Middle East peace process; Israel; European Union; United States.
