Abstract

REIS, Bruno Cardoso. European Defense in Lisbon. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2010, n.25, pp.31-47. ISSN 1645-9199.

How are security and defense dealt with in the Lisbon Treaty? Traditionally this is an area of difficult integration due to the fact that it is here that reside the main powers of the modern sovereign state. The growing defense costs, a world with more diffuse threats, and the economic and financial crisis make changes in this domain more necessary and probable. What is the extent of novelty and the challenges of the Lisbon Treaty regarding security and defense? These are the main questions debated on this article.

Keywords : European Union; Lisbon Treaty; security; defense.
