Abstract

LAINS, Pedro. The crisis in 2012. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2012, n.33, pp.43-51. ISSN 1645-9199.

This article embraces a historical standpoint to grasp the causes leading to the current economic and financial crisis. Bearing in mind the crisis of 1929 is important, inasmuch as it also began with financial markets and later spread to the rest of economy. It is crucial to understand how that transmission took place, in order to discern what kind of solutions are needed to help overcome the crisis at hand. Despite running deeper, the Great Depression, however, had a more limited world-wide geographic impact than the present crisis, since the world, at the time, was a less globalized place.

Keywords : International economy; economic crisis; United States; Portugal.
