Abstract

ANDRE, José Gomes. Midterm Elections and Obama's foreign policy. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2012, n.34, pp.73-88. ISSN 1645-9199.

This paper examines the potential impact that midterm elections of 2010 - which generated a new Republican majority in the House of Representatives and a more balanced Senate - have made in the Obama administration’s foreign policy. We analyze the themes in which a significant change has occurred (whether by means of a blockage to political priorities of the Presidency, whether through a reinforced support to the administration’s plans), as well as the areas which have remained essentially unaltered (and the reasons for such continuity). In a final section we reflect upon the provisional character of some aspects of our own evaluation.

Keywords : EUA; Obama administration; foreign policy; midterm elections.
