Abstract

RIBEIRO, José Félix. China’s repositioning: geoeconomics, geopolitics and strategy. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2013, n.38, pp.35-43. ISSN 1645-9199.

The present paper begins by presenting the factors that facilitated the centrality of the United States during the Cold war and the influence of globalization on those factors, with an emphasis on the key role of the economic, financial and strategic relations between the US and the Asia-Pacific as the basis of globalization. In the light of the 2008 international financial crisis, the paper carries out an analysis of the internal factors that might favour China’s action in that area and, lastly, the intermediate and operational goals should China wish, in the future, to challenge the US’ role as the “Middle Empire”.

Keywords : China; United States; Asia-Pacific; Globalization.
