The Great War is generally analysed from the perspective of the great powers and, in particular, of the USA, France and Great Britain. The three allies did not share the same goals and isions of the post-war order. This division was also manifest in other parts of the globe and, most notably, in East Asia. This article has the goal of analysing the goals two Asian countries: China and Japan. Whilst China considered its entry in the War as a means to achieving its true self-determination within the Wilsonian spirit, Japan saw an opportunity to be recognized as a great imperial power. Although both countries were unsatisfied with the outcomes and, in particular, with the Treaty of Versailles, the Great War confirmed the rise of Asia as an actor of international relations.
