Abstract

BASTOS, Laura  and  BARRINHA, André. The Erdogan's Turkey: the beginning of the end or just the end of the beginning?. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2014, n.44, pp.49-70. ISSN 1645-9199.

2014 was a year of paradoxes in Turkey. Internally, Recep Tayyip Erdogan's power was reinforced by winning the two elections, local and presidential, with comfortable margins in spite of the anti-government protests and the corruption scandal involving the government. Externally, Ankara had to face the escalation of the conflicts in Syria and Iraq without a coherent strategy. A scenario feared by many who see Erdogan as an increasingly authoritarian leader.

Keywords : Turkey; Emerging Powers; AKP; Middle East.
