Abstract

The United Nations Organisation, as it is reflected in its Charter, includes among its main objectives the protection of human rights. To fulfil this aim the un resorts to the following means: 1) the proclamation of human rights in declarations and covenants; 2) the creation of bodies with special responsibilities in this area; 3) the identification and enhancement of principles pertinent to the protection of human rights such as the responsibility to protect; 4) the support to institutions which pursue similar objectives of which the International Criminal Court is an example.
