Abstract

BARBOSA, Wilton Dias  and  PORTILHO, Isaque Elias. The foreign policies of Argentina and Brazil during their military regimes: a comparative analysis. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2016, n.51, pp.107-123. ISSN 1645-9199.

In this paper, we discuss the foreign policy during the latest military governments of the most influential countries in the Southern Cone of the Americas: Argentina and Brazil. More precisely, this work intends to compare the guidelines of the foreign policies of both countries during their respective military regimes and understand to what extent they established relations of cooperation or competition in a bilateral scope. At the same time, we also seek to understand the influences from those policies in relation to the bipolar system that characterized this historical period. Next, we will also make a brief analysis of the processes that marked the political opening to democracy conducted in both countries by analyzing how they have influenced the Brazilian-Argentine relations in this new international system characterized by the end of the Cold War.

Keywords : Argentina; Brazil; bilateral relations; South America.
