Abstract

NEVES, Miguel Santos. The paradiplomacy region-to-region dimension in eu-China relations. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2018, n.60, pp.113-140. ISSN 1645-9199.  https://doi.org/10.23906/ri2018.60a07.

The paper addresses the significance and dynamics of the paradiplomacy region-to-region dimension of EU-China relations and discusses the implications of integrating this level in the overall EU policy design and planning. It analyses the data on trade to illustrate the significance of EU regions and Chinese Provinces/cities economic ties looking at the cases of the most active German, French and Italian regions and argues that this is not merely a result of market dynamics but also of the underlying institutional ties that have been built in the last three decades which sustain exchanges and foster the advantages of paradiplomacy ties.

Keywords : EU-China relations; trade; paradiplomacy; multi-level governance.
