Abstract

SOLLER, Diana. The Biden synthesis: a liberal Order for a system undergoing a power transition. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2021, n.69, pp.5-33.  Epub May 31, 2021. ISSN 1645-9199.  https://doi.org/10.23906/ri2021.69a01.

This article argues that President Joe Biden follows in the footsteps of his predecessor, except for two fundamental differences. The first difference is the higher degree of explicitness - the new president makes it clear that China challenges Washington in its international leadership and in its model of international order. The second difference is that Biden intends to carry out his “hegemonic war” imprinting in it the liberal internationalist mark that had vanished with Donald Trump. To this end, we delve into the theoretical origins of the Biden order and how the new president is putting the centuries-old heritage into practice.

Keywords : Joe Biden; international liberalism; international order; China.
