Abstract

ANSANELLI, Stela; MORAES, Raquel; CINTRAO, Matheus  and  SILVA, Guilherme da. Environmental impacts of trade between Brazil and China: product life cycle perspective. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2021, n.70, pp.109-125.  Epub June 30, 2021. ISSN 1645-9199.  https://doi.org/10.23906/ri2021.70a08.

This article analyzes the environmental impact of the commercial relationship Brazil-China between 2001 and 2017. Under the argument that every productive sector generates an environmental impact, it was carried out an analysis of the import and export flows based on the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), which deals with the environmental impacts caused in the use of the resources, in the pro- duction process, in the consumption and final disposal. The results rein- forced the environmental vulnerability of this bilateral trade pattern, through the specialization of the Brazilian exports in primary products and imports of technology-intensive products, which generate emissions during the product final consumption, creating new challenges for public policies and solid waste treatment.

Keywords : life cycle; bilateral trade Brazil-China; environment; final consumption management.
