Abstract

PIRES, Nuno Lemos. Portugal, the 2021 Summit and the future of NATO. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2021, n.72, pp.5-13.  Epub Dec 31, 2021. ISSN 1645-9199.  https://doi.org/10.23906/ri2021.72a01.

This summit went very well because it marked the much desired re-joining of the two sides of the Atlantic. It was an ambitious Summit with detailed plans for a new NATO strategic concept due next year and for the definition of a clear path to be followed up to 2030. This being so, old and new questions still came up to the surface that clearly needed further discussion, negotiation and consensus. This was an announced debate in which Portugal, can and should be present given its well-known credibility and the undoubtable value of its contribution towards a stronger and more cohesive Alliance.

Keywords : NATO 2030; inovation; challenges; consensus.
