Abstract

MENDES, Victor Santos  and  GOES, Lara. The securitisation of terrorism in the attacks in France and the exceptional measures of Hollande’s government. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2023, n.78, pp.65-79.  Epub June 30, 2023. ISSN 1645-9199.  https://doi.org/10.23906/ri2023.78a05.

This article analyses the securitization of jihadist terrorism within the context of the attacks against French territory in 2015, aiming to show how this process guaranteed the support from the parliament and the public opinion for the adoption of restrictive measures of individual rights by François Hollande’s government. The research finds that the former French president categorizes terrorism as an existential threat to France and security being a prerequisite to human rights, which gave him support for the adoption of restrictive measures.

Keywords : terrorism; France; exceptional measures.
