LIMA, Felipe Costa. Gandhism and India’s postcolonial foreign policy: Satyagraha in a hostile international reality. Relações Internacionais [online]. 2023, n.80, pp.19-35.  Epub 31-Mar-2024. ISSN 1645-9199.  https://doi.org/10.23906/ri2023.80a02.

Ideals and practical constructs based on Mahatma Gandhi’s conceptions have profoundly influenced activists worldwide since his successful campaign to free India from British colonial rule. However, Gandhian ideas have received less attention in the field of international relations, particularly concerning India’s foreign affairs. This article aims to examine the influence of gandhism on India’s foreign policy post-independence. To achieve this goal, it starts by elucidating Gandhi’s theories and ideas on international order and then delve into the impact these ideas had during specific periods in India’s postcolonial history.

Palavras-chave : Indian foreign affairs; gandhism; nehruvianism; political hinduism.
