CARITA, Renato Aparecido Corrêa; PICARELLI, Cintia; GRECO, Camila Coelho e DENADAI, Benedito Sérgio. Effect of previous severe exercise on the power-time relationship in active individuals during cycling. Motri. [online]. 2015, vol.11, n.1, pp.14-24. The aim of this study was to analyse the effect of prior severe exercise (PSE) on the critical power (CP) and anaerobic work capacity (AWC) determined during cycling exercise. Seven males, performed on different days, the following protocols on a cycle ergometer: (a) incremental test to determine ventilatory threshold (VT), maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) and its corresponding intensity (IVO2max), (b) six constant-work-rate tests in random order, with (PSE) and without (CON) the completion of PSE. The PSE was preceded by 6 min at 70%D (i.e., 70% of the difference between VT and IVO2max). The estimation of the CP at CON condition (199.71 ± 27.08 W) was not significantly different from the condition PSE (211.71 ± 29.92 W). Similarly, AWC was not significantly different between conditions (CON = 23.46 ± 10.76 kJ vs. PSE= 17.51 ± 8.44 kJ). Thus, prior severe exercise (70%D) followed by 6 min of recovery does not influence the estimation of CP and AWC in active individuals.
