The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of biological and sociocultural variables in motor performance among children from 7-9 years of age. The sample comprised 129 children, 60 (46.5%) boys and 69 (53.5) girls, aged 7-9 years (M= 8.07 ± 0.55). Motor variable was assessed by the Test of Gross Motor Development - Second Edition (TGMD-2). We used the cut-off values ​​for BMI proposed by Cole et al. (2000) and body composition (% L) followed by the equations Lohman (1986). The socioeconomic context was assessed by questionnaire ABA / ABIPEME modified by Almeida and Wickerhauser (1991). It was found that 79.8% of children had a rating of "very poor". When comparing the sexes, boys had better results in object control skills (t= 6.28, p= 0.01), particularly in skills bounce (t= 3.8, p= 0.01), kick (t= 4.3, p = 0.01) and pitch over (t= 5.21, p= 0.01). Out of the biological variables, the one that best correlated with motor performance was estimated body fat (r= -0.27, p= 0.01). Sociocultural variables did not show correlations with motor development but they correlated with biological characteristics (r= 0.25, p= 0.01). Thus, biological and contextual factors influence children motor performance, and the results show their interactive nature of motor development.
