Resumen

CARVALHO, Diogo Duarte; SERRA, Nuno; LIMA, Fillipe Bandeira  y  FERNANDES, Ricardo Jorge. Fascial therapy allows for greater shoulder rotation and elbow flexion. Motri. [online]. 2018, vol.14, n.1, pp.284-288. ISSN 1646-107X.

Manual therapy and electrostimulation have had very positive results in improving body functionality by altering fascial elastic characteristics. The present study aimed to analyze the acute effect of a combined treatment of manual fascial release and neuromuscular electrostimulation on the angular amplitude and velocity of internal and external rotation of the shoulder, and elbow flexion and extension, during a maximum effort. A 50- to 55-year-old master swimmer performed two evaluations of internal and external shoulder rotation and flexion and elbow extension on an isokinetic dynamometer (Biodex) before and after manual techniques of myofascial, visceral fascial and proprioceptive neuromuscular electrostimulation and manual resistance. Mean increases in the range of motion in the internal and external rotation of the shoulder and elbow flexion were observed (6) and (5) (respectively) maintenance of the maximum angular velocity in all movements and decrease of the mean speed in the internal rotation of the shoulder and flexion and extension of the elbow. The applied therapy induced an improvement in the ability to reach greater angular amplitudes, useful for a better use of the actions of the upper limbs during the swim.

Palabras clave : fascial therapy; isokinetic; angular amplitude; angular velocity; swimming.
