Abstract

The current study analyzed the association between health promotion actions and lifestyle in male adults, students form municipality of Maracanaú-Ceará. A total of 246 were surveyed over a 5-month period, assessing sociodemographic items, clinical items, participation in health promotion actions and it was also applied an instrument named Fantastic Lifestyle (Estilo de Vida Fantástico, in the original). The results shown that the majority of the sample ranged between 20 and 22 years and studied in the third high-school level and monthly income up to two minimum wage. Out of the total sample only 61 individuals reported to have participated in health promotion actions addressing smoking, dieting and physical exercising. The majority (n=170) classified the Fantastic Lifestyle (FL) as positive. There was an association between rating in the FL and reading texts about health, being influenced to non-alcoholism and blood pressure measurements. The final regression model showed that reading about health contributes to men´s health. It is concluded that perceptions about the health and disease are fundamental determinants of the success of health promotion actions.
