Abstract

LIMA, Jefferson de Sousa et al. Variations in body composition in overweight adolescents after volleyball practice. Motri. [online]. 2018, vol.14, n.1, pp.409-416. ISSN 1646-107X.

The aim of this study was to assess changes on body composition in overweighed adolescents after a period of volleyball training. The sample comprised 16 overweighed individuals (8 males and 8 females) with ages between 10 and 14 years. Body composition assessment wee performed prior and post a 3-month volleyball training program. The program consisted of 3 weekly sessions of 60 min. There were no significant differences on body composition between the two moments for most of measures in bot sexes. Only the hip to waist ratio improved significantly in males. It is concluded that a volleyball program does not induces significant changes in body composition and probably a nutritional intake control must be performed to turn the program more effective.
