Resumen

CARDOSO, Pedro  y  GOMES, Maribel. Osteoma osteoide e radiofrequência: Análise dos resultados do tratamento de uma série de 27 casos. Rev. Port. Ortop. Traum. [online]. 2012, vol.20, n.1, pp.31-36. ISSN 1646-2122.

Although the osteoid osteoma is a self-limited lesion, the intense pain often demands a surgical intervention. Classical treatment with salicylates (and other non-steroid anti-inflammatories) is inconsistent and can not be tolerated for a long period of time. ”En bloc” resection and curettage are sometimes difficult procedures, with signifi cant morbidity. Some mini-invasive techniques have been developing in the treatment of osteoid osteoma but it seems that radiofrequency is the one with best results. This paper is the first Portuguese reporting the treatment of osteoid osteoma in 27 patients with radiofrequency. It emphasizes the effi cacy and simplicity of the method and the possibility of its use all over the skeleton, namely in the spine. Total and precocious pain relief was experienced by all patients, except one, in whom the diagnosis was not correct. There were no complications related to the procedure. General anesthesia, CT scan availability, radiofrequency generator and catheter and ambulatory hospitalization are the keys for the successful treatment of this pathology.

Palabras clave : Osteoid osteoma; radiofrequency.
