SARMENTO, André et al. Artroplastia de resurfacing. Rev. Port. Ortop. Traum. [online]. 2012, vol.20, n.3, pp.287-294. ISSN 1646-2122.

Hip resurfacing arthroplasty is a bone preserving surgery in which the femoral head is preserved being covered by a metal component which articulates with an acetabular component. The purpose of this study is to retrospectively analyze the results of 486 consecutive hip resurfacing arthroplasties. The mean follow-up time was 5,2 years. A clear favorable clinical outcome was obtained as well as a satisfaction level of 95%. The survival rate was 98%. 9 hip arthroplasties were revised. The present study confirms the possibility of attaining excellent survival rates in Young active patients who want to keep their lifestyle when operated by high volume surgeons. Revision rates are compatible with the previously stated in the literature and appear to be correlated to component orientation. Hip resurfacing arthroplasty is therefore a valuable option in the treatment of hip osteoarthritis especially in Young adults.
