AGUIAR, Thiago et al. Ressecção artroscópica de osteoma osteóide intra-articular na transição cabeça-colo femoral. Rev. Port. Ortop. Traum. [online]. 2013, vol.21, n.4, pp.519-524. ISSN 1646-2122.

Osteoid osteoma is a small benign tumor, usually solitary and very painful. Infrequently has intraarticular or periarticular localization (5-13%), that may be associated with joint effusion, synovitis, degenerative changes, limitation of movement and muscle contractures. Despite the existence of plain radiography, scintigraphy or MRI, CT scan is still considered to be the imaging method of choice for the diagnosis of this entity. In the past surgery was the gold standard treatment. Nowadays minimally invasive percutaneous techniques are the cornerstone treatment, specifically radiofrequency ablation. With the recent enthusiasm around hip arthroscopy, the resection of osteoid osteomas has been described in a few case reports with good results. We report an unusual case of a femoral head-neck junction osteoid osteoma treated by arthroscopic burr resection, with the patient´s full recovery. Burr resection seems to have some advantages over en bloc resection. Although the reports of hip arthroscopic resection of osteoid osteoma are increasing, there is still lack comparative studies between the different techniques.
