DUARTE, Ricardo  e  RAMOS, António. Estudo comparativo da distribuição de carga articulação anca intacta e com prótese total press-fit e resurfacing. Rev. Port. Ortop. Traum. [online]. 2014, vol.22, n.2, pp.5-18. ISSN 1646-2122.

The study aims to analyze the behavior of two different total hip replacement solutions when there is good bone quality. Three experimental and computational models based on synthetic hip joint models were developed. The models consider the intact joint and two others with total hip replacement. The solutions studied involve a total press-fit and a resurfacing prosthesis. Each model of the hip joint was developed computationally through the process of 3D scanning after implementation solutions. The computational models were generated based on 3D models and applied the respective experimental conditions for each of the models, as the same experimental conditions, considering a load in the reaction of 170Kg applied on the Iliac. Results indicate an approximation of the mechanical behavior of the intact hip joint prosthesis with Birmingham ® resurfacing. However there were areas where it is possible a fatigue failure at high deformations. The medial aspect of the femur presented as the most critical with high deformations. Total arthoplasty solutions studied showed similar distribution in iliac bone; however both decrease the deformation which promotes bone loss in the acetabulum region. The results show that both solutions modify the load distribution in the bone structure, however, the resurfacing solution has the closest behavior of the intact joint. The results reveal that the deformation changes the load distribution and reaction models with prosthesis, due to different distal distribution.
