Abstract

MAIO, Marta; GOMES, Magda; BARBOSA, Bruno  and  CERCA, Carlos. Rutura do tendão quadricipital, diagnóstico tardio. Rev. Port. Ortop. Traum. [online]. 2014, vol.22, n.4, pp.425-430. ISSN 1646-2122.

Objective: Quadriceps tendon rupture is an uncommon, usually traumatic injury but can be spontaneous and associated with systemic diseases. The diagnosis is essentially clinical and requires early treatment. In cases of delayed diagnosis and treatment over 72h, due to the tissue retraction, the probability of a poor functional outcome is greater. Description: Male, 71, with delayed diagnosis of quadriceps tendon rupture ( with a half month of evolution). Underwent surgical treatment for tendon repair using the technique Codivilla. Postoperative period was uneventful, initiating programmed functional rehabilitation, achieving at the end of six months an range of motion of 10/95º. Comments: The quadriceps tendon injury is uncommon, but it is an entity for which it is necessary to be aware. Its early diagnosis and treatment are essential to prevent residual deformity and decreased knee function. In this case, inspite of the late operation, the final result was satisfactory, which is also what is described in the literature for similar situations.

Keywords : Rupture; tendon; quadriceps.
