Resumen

MOURA, Diogo; CARVALHO, Marcos  y  LOURENCO, Paulo. Disfagia por Hiperostose Cervical Exuberante em Doença de Forestier: Resultados do Tratamento Cirúrgico. Rev. Port. Ortop. Traum. [online]. 2016, vol.24, n.1, pp.51-60. ISSN 1646-2122.

Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis, also known as Forestier’s disease, is a rare condition characterized by massive ossification affecting ligaments, tendons, and entheses of the anterior part of the spinal column. When cervical spine is affected, this disease can cause dysphagia by extrinsic compression of pharynx and esophagus. In severe and progressive cases, surgical resection of the osteophytes and calcifications is considered an effective treatment. We report two cases that were managed successfully with an anterior cervical exostectomy, with early and complete symptoms relief.

Palabras clave : Dysphagia; diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis; Forestier disease; cervical spine; osteophyte; calcification.
